Do you ever read your Bible and get midstream through a sentence and wonder, ‘what does this mean?’ or say to yourself, ‘I don’t understand this’? You know you’re not alone, right? I honestly think some of the writers of the Bible even told God that they didn’t understand what they were writing!!

So, what do you do about this? Do you shut your Bible and put it on your end table to dust off every once in a while? OR Do you keep reading it and ask questions and find out how to understand this book that has been written thousands of years ago, to a whole different culture, and written in another language

When I didn’t understand the Bible, I was desperate for God to show up in my life. It wasn’t because I was desperate…but I was desperate for God. I wasn’t going to let anything stop me from getting to know Him and getting to know Him meant understanding His Word. I was raised in the church as a child, but my parents got divorced and by the time I was nine years old we stopped going. So, for me, step one was the scariest. But I was desperate…for God. And when one is looking for God, the best place to find Him is in His house.

Step #1- Go to His house…and you’ll meet more of His kids. Going to a new church can be very intimidating. Just remember, If it’s really His house, His kids will be nice. If they aren’t nice, you’re in the wrong house. Do they have to be ‘overly’ nice? No, they are people just like you, but if they are mean…you don’t have to stay! Pray to God and ask Him to lead you to the right church. And, If it’s really His house, they will be teaching the Bible (which is His Word). So, if you don’t know the Bible very well…how will you know they are teaching it right?? Good question! Bring your Bible and a notebook to church. Ask someone to borrow a pen when you get there (you will meet someone new!!). Write down all of the Bible verses the pastor quotes, then when you get home, you can look them up and read them. Even if you didn’t understand the Pastor’s sermon,
